The 2nd annual 'Walk Towards Reconciliation, from Fort Langley to St. Mary's in Mission was held from Friday to Sunday, June 2 - 4. Over 100 walkers, including a number from Willoughby Church, participated in this event which marks the anniversary of the publication of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Report.
The walk began at Fort Langley on Friday evening with welcome songs and a blessing and ended on Sunday evening at a park on the site of the old St Mary’s Residential School. There the walkers were met by Residential School survivors and their children to hear stories and join in a feast of remembrance.
This journey of reconciliation is a long one. Willoughby Church's Just Faith Forum is honored to be a participant in this important movement toward healing in Canada as we look to celebrate its 150th birthday. There are painful stories in our history that need to be told and retold if we are to live well in this country.
The 'Walk Toward Reconciliation is a joint project of the United, Anglican and Mennonite Churches of Langley. Pieter Van der Leek and Dennis DeGroot serve on the organizing committee.
