At the end of this month, a team of workers from Willoughby Church are heading to Guatemala. Their tasks will include construction of two houses, distribution of 50 wheelchairs, installation of 10 solar lighting systems and health and wound care. Guatemala is a predominantly poor country that struggles in several areas. It endured a civil war during much of the 2nd half of the twentieth century which saw many villages destroyed and over 1 million people displaced within Guatemala or as refugees. More than half the population is below the poverty line. Infant, child and maternal mortality as well as malnutrition and literacy are prime concerns. Recovery is slow. You will have opportunity next week Sunday, through a special offering, to raise funds to support their trip with the purchase of wheelchairs, solar lighting systems and special medical cream. The team also asks for your prayers for success and safety while they travel. The participants from Willoughby Church for this trip are Al V., Luke V., Angela N., Norm G. and Hank H. The team is working in partnership with Hope Haven Canada and Bethel Ministries International in Guatemala.
