Another long travel day!
We woke up at 6am sharp at Risen King Community Church in Redding, CA. Ate a scrumptious breakfast, drank some terrible coffee and we hit the road.
It was quite uneventful. Did some silly games, as per usual, had a snooze, read some of my book, Faith Formation in a Secular Age by Andrew Root; which is delight!
We took a slight detour from our destination of Azusa Pacific University in Pasadena CA, to visit the legendary Santa Monica Pier. We spend about 2 hours hanging out on the beach, walking the pier, and trying to decide who was to go swimming. I jumped in!
Tomorrow we head to Mexicali and settle into the Serve site. After this I am not quite sure what to expect. This part of the trip seems all to familiar with my previous Serve experiences. I hope and pray that I can be a sponge and soak in all that happens.
Last night I led the group in devotions from Romans 8:37 discussing how God's love for us is greater than any barriers that we experience, whether they be international borders, geographic terrain, or cultural differences God's love is alive and active and we get a special front row seat to be apart of it in a new way this week.
Tonight we will discuss the Lord's prayer and focus on what it means to pray "thy Kingdom come," and how we can work together as a church to provide glimpses of the kingdom to each other and to the people of Mexicali.
Off to bed, goodnight!
