At-home Faith Formation Tip: At-home Faith Formation Tip - The Practice of Sabbath: In Wendell Berry and the Given Life, author Ragan Sutterfield quotes Berry: “[Sabbath] is not a break so that we might become renewed and refreshed for more work, but is rather a time when we live in the simple reality that we are creatures whose lives are given by God.” How might this insight change how you celebrate sabbath? Just Faith Forum: The last six months have been a rather strange time in the life of the church and we are just beginning to think of what the long term implications of all of this might be. One thing that has happened for many of us is that we are spending more of our time closer to home and maybe closer to our own screens. Just Faith Forum is suggesting that we might be able to use this new reality to increase congregational awareness of justice issues around the world, those highlighted by our own denomination and also other issues we feel are important for us to pay attention to and be educated about. We hope to provide you, via this page, with articles to read, videos to watch, or discussions to participate in and learn from. You will notice that there are a number of references here to refugees that we are working to sponsor or families that we have sponsored several years ago and their joys and challenges today. The global refugee crisis continues unabated. The link provided here is about the ongoing challenge for Syrian refugees. The video Sky and Ground: A Syrian Family's Journey Across Borders tells of the 3000 km journey of the Nabi family in their search for a new and safer home.
Refugee Sponsorship: We have received news that Adel and Muna Altaha have had their medical exams and are fully approved for travel to Canada. Limited travel has opened for refugees to fly from Lebanon to Canada, so we hope and pray that they are able to come to Canada sometime in the next few months. Initially, they will have to be quarantined for two weeks and then we can begin the process of settling them into a new life here. (Muna is a sister of Inaam Alomar, who many of you have met over the past years.) We will be able to find out more info about them when they will arrive.
