William Kurelek’s images used during this Advent season seek to draw us away from the bright sparklingly clean images of the baby Jesus in a manger to the earthy browns of an uncomfortable birth in an unsanitary stable on the other side of town.
In keeping with the simplicity of the Christmas story depicted in Kurelek’s “A Northern Nativity”, the trees that adorn our church hallways are kept simple and plain. The burlap ornaments, telling our stories of “Jesus is Better…” (taken from our series on Hebrews) are coarse and rough reminding us of the humanness of Christ.
