GEMS' Opening night is always one full of laughter and excitement fueled by new girls, new leaders, the renewing of old friendships and the expectation of new experiences and adventures to come throughout the year.
GEMS' theme this year is Bring the Message based on Isaiah 6:8 - "Then I heard the voice of the LORD saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!". The message is the news that Jesus loves us and died for our sins so that we can have a relationship with God that lasts forever. We are called to bring that message for God. Send me!
On our first night, to tie in this idea of "going/sending", we played a couple of games involving shoes and feet. The girls also created a wooden block puzzle on which they printed 4 different messages: God loves the world, Jesus died for you, Bring the Message and the question Do you love Jesus?. Throughout the year , we hope these girls will grow to fully know and feel in their hearts God's love for them so they will be energized to share that love joyfully with others wherever they may be whether that is here at home or far away. We want to show the GEMS how our words and actions can build bridges for people to meet Jesus and that they can pray for God to change hearts and draw people closer to Him.
We finished the night learning some dance moves for our theme song - I Will Follow by Chris Tomlin. Girls and dancing - they kind of go hand in hand. We are looking forward to watching God dance and move in the hearts of all the GEMS girls (and the leaders too) this coming year!
